To be an Administrative Assistant within the local government, you will need to be an effective administrator with plenty of previous experience. As with any
administrative role you would need to be very organised and efficient but in the role as a Local government administrative assistant, you will be required to provide support to Managers and local council departments in almost any department they have within the council such as housing, benefits etc.If you have found a role you would now like to apply for, please see the below letter which will give you a guide as to what to include in your own covering letter.
Dear Sir/Madam,
Application for a Local Government Administrative Assistant
I have recently seen your advert in (where and when) for a Local Government Administrative Assistant in (what council, town) and I would like to apply for this role.
I have had previous experience as an Administrator and I feel that I have gained some excellent experience during this time. I am an organised and thorough individual with excellent computer skills. I am a confident communicator and have had experience in dealing with different levels of management.
In my previous roles, I have been responsible for typing letters, filing, arranging different filing systems, keeping detailed accurate records on a database and manually and I have had some accounts experience dealing with petty cash and receipts. I feel that I have had a very varied role and have some transferable skills which would be useful for the role of Local Government Administrative Assistant.
I have always had a keen interest in the local government and would be keen to work in any department as I am very interested in learning the bigger picture of local government and how the government helps and supports the general public in different areas.
I have enclosed my CV and my referee details with my application form (normally you will be required to complete an application form for any local authority role) and should you want further information please do not hesitate to contact me.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely
