If you are keen to be a retail assistant then you will ideally have previous experience of retail and if not then a passion for the products you are looking to sell. To be a good retail assistant you will need to be good with people, have excellent communication skills and have a passion for doing well from a selling point of view where you could make commission or bonuses for selling the most.
You will need to be an outgoing person to do this role well and be hard working. Working in retail is hard work as you will be on your feet for a long period of time and talking to customers, dealing with stock, helping to keep the store clean etc.
If you have found a role in which you would like to apply for, please see the below covering letter example which you use as a guide.

Application for the role of Retail Assistant
I would like to apply for the role of Retail Assistant that I have seen advertised in (which publication and when).
I am an outgoing and confident communicator. I love fashion and enjoy working in a retail environment. I have over 3 years experience to date of working within retail and am very keen to continue my career in this area. I like to ensure that I learn a lot about the products I am trying to sell and I like to get to know my customers so that I know what I can and can’t recommend to them.
I am a hardworking person and I want to make a good career for myself within retail. I am organised, honest and trustworthy. I have had key holding experience in my last position and have been relied upon to have the store opened especially in busy sale periods where our opening hours are extended.
I have enclosed my CV which details my skills and experiences. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and CV, I look forward to hearing from you.
