The role of a Finance Controller is a very responsible and important position where you would need to be an effective communicator with a patient and tactful manner.
You must be able to keep calm under pressure whilst being assertive. You would need to be good with numbers and have the ability to explain financial matters clearly perhaps to people with not a great deal of financial knowledge.
You would need to have a good GCSE grade in Maths as well as previous Finance experience.

I have recently seen your advert for a Finance Controller and I am interested in applying for this role.
My background is in finance having worked in an accounts department for X years (if this is true) and I feel that I am now ready for a bigger role and challenge and ability to manage a department.
I have had some supervisory experience and feel that I could manage a department effectively.
I am a very organised person by nature and can stay calm when working under pressure. I also pay great attention to detail and would check and double check to make sure something right.
I have good GCSE’s grades in English, Maths and IT. I feel that I am a confident communicator and able to make rational decisions on my own initiative. I like to work in both a team environment and on my own initiative.
I have researched your company and was very impressed to see what the future looks like at your company and I would like to be a part of that.
