If you are looking to be an Event Planner then you will usually have done some kind of hospitality course or degree and have a good understanding of planning events. Companies requiring event planners usually need the planner to do exactly that, plan an event from beginning to end paying meticulous attention to detail on every aspect.
You will need to be highly organised, self motivated and have a real get up and go about yourself to do this role, you will often be working to tight deadlines and budgets and you will need to be able to keep calm under pressure as you will often be wearing many hats at once.
If you are looking to apply for a role as an Event Planner, please see the below covering letter you can use as an example:

Application for the role of Event Planner
I would like to apply for the role of Event Planner which you have advertised in (where) and (when).
I am a very organised person who entered the world of planning events as I feel my organised nature allows me to deal with all the detail of a full event. To date I have organised international conferences, weddings, parties, meetings, annual debates, you can see on my CV for full detail of each of my projects and links to some of the events I have been responsible for.
I enjoy planning events and organising the people who work in the team to set it all up. There are many things to think about when organising any event from finding the correct venue to planning where everything needs to go, what furniture and decoration is needed right down to dealing with the marketing of the event and who will be attending etc.
I enjoy the challenge of taking an idea of an event and turning it into something that a client is proud of. I live and breathe each event until it is over and has been successful and put all my efforts and time into the event I am working on.
I am an excellent team player with great communication skills. I have a hands on approach to my work and will not rest until I get the job done.
If you are interested in my skills, please do not hesitate to contact me.
I look forward to hearing from you.
