Energy consultants can either be employed by companies or do freelance work on a consultancy basis. Their role is to work with customers and advise them on how to make best use of their gas and electricity supplies (or other “greener” fuels) to enable them to make savings and be more environmentally friendly. You will need excellent customer care skills and a scientific, mathematical brain, being able to analyse data and solve problems. Energy consultants often come from engineering backgrounds although this is not essential if you can demonstrate strong numerical and scientific skills.
